2008 – 2009

Activities
  • In continuation of the Foundation’s sustained efforts to encourage and cherish tribal arts, the Kurumba artists were provided with art materials and other incentives to produce the art for commercial marketing.
  • The Foundation organized exhibitions of their products like Kurumba art, Kota pottery, Toda embroidery shawls and Vaghiri bead-work.
  • Kurumba artists had the chance to expose their art talent to public at the Exhibition on Biodiversity of the Nilgiris organized at Lawrence School, Lovedale, Ooty during May 2008. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, visited the exhibition and interacted with the tribes. He appreciated the Kurumba art and Kitna.
  • C.P. Art Centre’s staff guided the Kurumba artists to produce a CALENDAR FOR 2009 for C.P. R. Environmental Education Centre. This gave the Kurumbas national exposure and they were invited to participate in tribal exhibitions and in the Republic Day Parade.
